Inside The Cromwell: Las Vegas' New Kid On The Block

It’s quaint, gorgeous and filled with elegance and history. The Cromwell – a new boutique hotel on the corner of Flamingo Road and Las Vegas Boulevard – is the new kid on the block, housed in the old Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall. It’s not the equivalent of the massive Strip casinos like nearby Caesar’s or Bellagio, but The Cromwell isn’t meant to compete with the mega hotels in Vegas.

The hotel offers only 188 rooms, including 19 suites, and is only 12 stories, which seems minuscule next to Bally’s and the Flamingo, the hotel’s direct neighbors.

However, the interior is elegant and walking through the 40,000-square-foot ground level casino offers ample opportunity to revel in a bit of Vegas history. For example, the elaborate chandeliers featured in the casino are a blast from the past – 1979 to be precise. They were refurbished from The Barbary Coast Hotel and Casino of the same location, where the chandeliers previously hung.

The blend of modern and vintage with reds and browns accented by gold provides an ambiance of fun sophistication. Foodies staying at The Cromwell get an extra treat with Giada de Laurentiis' first restaurant. Like her Food Network show, the restaurant will feature Italian cuisine with a California cool makeover, and  amazing views of The Strip with an unparalleled menu to boot.

Another one of the perks for staying at The Cromwell is easy access to the trio of Drai’s popular venues. We’re talking about the Drai’s After Hours club being completed in the basement of The Cromwell and the 60,000-square-foot rooftop nightclub and beach club. Sure to be frequented by party people of Vegas, Drai’s Nightclub and Drai’s Beach Club bring unique flare to The Cromwell’s essence.

Checking in to The Cromwell? Then get your French-English dictionary out because the rooms are of a French Parisian style décor with the writing on the wall, err, actually the carpet. Yes, you can use that dictionary to decipher French sayings found inlaid into the carpet. The standard rooms have wood floors with deep purple accents throughout the room. Tufted headboards, vanity bars, and Marie Antoinette-stylized artwork exude the chicness that only French decorations can provide.

If you book one of the suites, you’ll get a mix of steam-punk style décor with amenities and views of The Strip that rival some of the destination’s mega hotels.
