First off, you should know that The Venetian is the world's largest hotel and resort complex. The biggest on Earth. I've lived here for about 6 years and I still get lost every single time I set foot inside The Venetian, or The Palazzo for that matter. I have an impeccable sense of direction, mind you. So, as long as you don't mind some walking, the treasures waiting inside The Venetian are definitely worth the adventure.

You really do not need any more reasons to want to get out from behind that desk do you? Do you really need someone like me to tell you that working is nowhere near as fun as cocktails with a view of the Las Vegas strip? Meetings are better than a night dancing at Hyde Bellagio as the fountains go off in the background? Really, that baloney sandwich between two pieces of stale, old, bread is what you will choose over an heirloom tomato salad drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette that is chased down with a glass of Prosecco?

The Experience

In the widely varied world of shopping on the Vegas Strip, there are many destinations, each with their own offerings, but perhaps only one captures the imagination as a must-see location: the Venetian’s Grand Canal Shoppes. You’ve heard the fantasy, and I have to tell you, it’s quite true. They really did build a replica Venetian canal inside a shopping mall (on the second floor!), and yes, you can even take a ride on it with a singing gondolier (actually, you can even get married on it, but that’s another story).

Even if the 1980s are not a time you wish to relive. Even if hair metal is a music which has no place in your collection. Even if you somehow wandered into the theatre in a drunken haze. You will not be able to deny the pleasures of Rock of Ages, a musical that doesn’t take itself, its subject, or you the audience seriously.

As the taped introduction by Whitesnake’s “legendary” front man David Coverdale puts it, “enjoy having your face melted.”

There is this feeling that comes from spending an afternoon in a nice robe and feeling beads of sweat runoff your brow in a hot steam. It’s called relaxation. It’s that moment when you feel the stress leave your body. That moment that we all crave when the only thing we are concerned with is our breathing or the trashy magazine we are reading. A spa day is the perfect remedy for the long hours you put in at the office or the even longer hours you put in raising those kids that seemed like such a good idea at the time.
