The Sayers Club At SLS Curates Trendy Vibes & Cocktails

The Sayers Club is a venue that “serves Bands, Beats, and Vibes daily. “ SBE Entertainment Group’s newest Vegas location does simply that, and so much more. The younger (but larger) sister-location to their Hollywood hotspot, Sam Nazarian has outdone himself yet again with a unique and trendsetting venue. Seated inside the brand-new SLS hotel alongside their other bold venues like LiFE and Foxtail Pool Club, SLS has certainly ran the gamut when it comes to Vegas nightlife and daylife offerings.

say3Sayers is a sight for sore eyes in the sense that it bridges the gap between the sparse, small, hole-in-the-wall rock clubs and chaotic mega electronic dance music (EDM) nightclubs here in Sin City. A cozy home for vibe curators and connoisseurs alike, this space has versatility in spades. Sayers puts a strong focus on the music itself, specifically, quality emergent artists. Whether they are underground MCs, indie folk rock collectives, groovy cover bands, or vinyl scratching DJs.

The space accommodates up to 250 people, the perfect size for busting moves in front of the stage and still making it to the opposite main bar unscathed – all the while retaining a deep intimacy with the performer and their music.

The seating is rearrange-able and can be customized to fit the performer and crowd size. The DJ booth and artist’s stage is barely raised, increasing this intimacy factor even further. Let’s talk about the interior design. Golf claps everyone! Finally...  beautiful and meticulous design, without the same old campy and stale nightclub/ultra-lounge feel. It’s truly a breath of fresh air when you can tell an interior designer made a conscious effort to set their ego aside and serve the venue rather than flex their designer chops. From the brick wall and perfectly lit birdcage chandeliers that line the bar to the wood paneling, afghan rugs, and masculine leather couches… it all managed to satisfy my vintage fetish and still feel fresh. Very sleek, well balanced, and nothing out of place.

I was quite impressed with the patio area. Perfect for giving your ears a break and/or smoking a cigar (or pipe if you’re more hipster). Additionally, the outside patio is directly connected to Umami Burger, Beer Garden, and Sports Book. So even if your date isn’t the biggest fan of the band playing, or isn’t in the mood for custom-crafted cocktails, the night shall not be in vain with plenty of foodie eats, cheap suds, and great ambience to please the senses outside. say5

The door staff were enthusiastic and welcoming. The attractive bartenders aren’t just mixing jack and coke either. SBE honors its patrons with real mixologists and stocks an eclectic spirit, wine and beer inventory to go along with their other high-end amenities. I was quite impressed with their wide whiskey and bourbon selection. The crowd was organically drawn and trendy, many of them, no doubt, already staying at SLS. Call it what you will, hipsters or what have you, but this crowd cares about one thing: the music. They’re not concerned with mating rituals, who is the best dressed/has the best hair, or which celebrities are behind the non-existent red rope.

I happened to venture out to The Sayers Club on their White Label Thursdays. A night dedicated to a strict vinyl-based DJ set with no cover and no dress code. DJ Spair was spinning a very legit mix of old school, underground, and hot, new hip-hop.

Coming from a 6-year stint in New Orleans the only venue I’ve encountered that does vinyl sets thus far is Saturn Bar in the very hip Marigny neighborhood. A lot of people cry-out “hipster” as soon as they hear “vinyl,” but the truth is when your audio source is an actual turntable being run through a Funktion One, you are ensuring the highest fidelity analog sound possible to fill the room. The acoustics were simply fantastic. As a wannabe audiophile, I was simply blown away. Words don’t do the sound justice. You must simply just go. This fine detail increases the warm and atmospheric quality (atypical for Vegas) of the club tenfold. I no longer have to fly out to New Orleans or Austin to get my vinyl fix.

say1Still in its infancy, it already has a dedicated local loyal customer base. I don’t think I’m alone in saying Vegas locals (and tourists) have been crying out for something truly different for a while now when it comes to nightlife options. Sam Nazarian and SBE are definitely in tune with the up and coming millennial a.k.a attention deficit disorder (ADD) generation. They understand that we don’t crave, or rather are not impressed, with the gaudiness and flashiness of the boomers and generation X (no offense guys). We love a Lamborghini just as much as the next person, but still appreciate and revere that vintage Ford or Chevy. We crave settings that encourage vibes, experiences, and unforgettable memories (specifically ones that take place at night) rather than ones that remind us of the constant mundaness of the rat race. Very few places offer such an escape.

The Sayers Club managed to pull on my heartstrings with a great sense of hope at the prospect of finding a legitimate contender for the center and home-base of indie rock, hip-hop, funk/soul, and R&B genres here in Vegas.  This is the waviest club to watch a power trio shred while wearing your beloved flannel or tip-toeing in your Jordans to some serious Hip-Hop jams all the while enjoying the excellent hospitality of the SLS Hotel. say2
