Get Your Geek On At These Techy Hangouts in Town

Here at Galavantier, we have no shortage of nerdism in our staffing, present company included. When you're a programmer, social media nerd, coder, LAN enthusiast or general geek in Las Vegas, there are a few places that are near and dear to your heart. We explore a few spots that our own team likes to frequent.

The Beat Coffee & Emergency Arts
Well-established as a Downtown Vegas hangout spot, The Beat is right on the corner of Fremont and 6th Street. Perhaps because this spot is reminiscent of an urban city's popular coffee shop, it is never really empty and full of tech enthusiasts, or wanna-be tech enthusiasts. Still, you won't be bothered if you want to plop down with your laptop, grab a coffee, a snack and enjoy some ear-budded serenity in a public place.

Sambalatte
We don't mean the new Sambalatte that just opened up at Monte Carlo, but pretty much any other Sambalatte in the valley is a good haunt for our techies. Definitely boasting amazing coffee concoctions, Sambalatte is perfect for when you need to achieve some caffeinated traction on your recent project. Their milk foam art is great Instagram content too and, of course, I'm speaking to you other social media geeks in the room. But please refrain from this cliche photo, tempted as you may be, because a good geeky hangout spot should inspire you to break the mold instead of fill it with filtered photos of coffee cups.

Hi Scores Bar-Arcade
Sorry, but I'm going to say it: Hi Scores blows Insert Coins out of the pixelated water. It may be further from the Strip, but it's quickly becoming a local favorite surpassing the initial buzz that Insert Coins was able to bring up. Way more interactivity, incredible food for a good price, a regular magician wandering around doing tricks, the outside patio, and an amazing spread of FREE video games. The nostalgia of it all brings back childhood memories and turns them into giggles fueled by their four-player X-Men game after drinking three vodka sodas. Another awesomely free element of this place is their Xbox and PlayStation three rentals. Here, you and your crew can pop down in the booth to play some Left 4 Dead to entertain the masses.

Gorilla Cafe
A recent discovery after hearing about our programmers' love of LAN parties, Gorilla Cafe offers a unique combination of geeky activities inside their venue. Play on their pool, carom/billiard tables or grab a PlayStation 3. Part computer cafe, offering PCs for personal use as well as gaming, Gorilla Cafe also offers a LAN center with high-powered computers and high-speed Internet. Treat yourself to free coffee and hot cocoa, plus a four for $10 beer special.

There you have it, nerds. Where us "cool kids" hang out. Don't be a stranger and stop by one of these lovely facilities to meet up or enjoy some quiet alone time with your processor.
