Top 10 Tips & Tricks For Going Out On The Town in Vegas

Epic nights out shouldn’t mean epic sessions of planning, organizing, and scheduling between you and your mates. Since Galavantier lives and breathes Vegas nightlife, we’ve got a few tips and tricks under our belts that can make your night out on the town as legendary as you hoped it would be.

1. Take The Best Selfies

selfie

It's bound to happen if you have a cell phone from any year after 2001, and I'm sure you've seen your photo album the morning after you've been out and about, thinking "Dear GOD, why does my face look like that? Seriously - when did I turn into Chris Farley last night?" Hopefully you didn't brazenly post it to Facebook already, but let's take into consideration a few tips when taking selfies.

  • Give yourself a good once-over in the mirror before you walk out the door, putting wayward hairs in a net of hairspray, touching up that eyeliner, etc.
  • Be sure you're in a well-lit area. Darkness = blur, almost every time. Some good mood lighting in the clubs can help, though, with warm pinks and electric purples bringing out the best in you.
  • Take note of your background for something that's plain, photobomber-less, or just too epic to pass up.
  • Angle is crucial, too. Most of those Chris Farley-looking pics are the result of an upward angle, bringing out your chin.  Don't be afraid of straight-on face shots, though! It shows confidence and your gorgeous features in perfect symmetry.
  • Stay still during your shot and click the shutter during an slow exhale. An old, tried-and-true photographer tip.
  • Editing is OK! Sometimes all a pic needs is a little vignette edge to bring the focus in on you. Snapseed is my ultimate, all-time favorite photo editing app for selfies, landscapes, foodie pics - EVERYTHING.
  • Be silly if you want to! This selfie is to capture the moment. The right now. The essence of who, what, where and when you were having this much fun.

2. Shoes

heels

There is one golden rule you do not want to break in Vegas. One situation that is so detestable to any Las Vegan. Please - PLEASE - don't be the girls walking around the city barefoot late at night. Choose shoes that are both sexy and sensible. I realize that might sound like what your Mom said before you went to your high school dance (except the "sexy" part), but it's never been more true than in Vegas. There are plenty of hot shoe options if you spend an hour or two shopping around the city for what you'd like to wear. If you have those tried-and-true nude pumps that go with everything and you've already successfully spent 6 hours dancing at your cousin's wedding in them without so much as a blister - those are your Vegas shoes. Wedges and ankle straps are always good for support and during the fall and winter months you can get away with some seriously hot stiletto boots.

3. Cash

cash

As most travelers will tell you, it's best not to carry huge sums of cash around with you. You could lose it, get pick pocketed, and just lose track during your night when pulling cash out, putting it back in, and doing a terrible job of bill organization. We've all been there. But here's what I will say: Bring about 2/3 of your spending budget in cash at the beginning of your trip and you won't have to visit the Strip's ATMs that charge at least an additional $2.50 - $5.00 per transaction. That's not even including any charges your bank might charge you for using these random, un-branded ATMs. When you've got your main stash hidden away in your room's safe, you can bring just the cash for the night and rely on plastic for anything else.

4. Valet

valet

As someone determined to slay her student loans with a vengeance, I understand the default usage of a self park garage and a half-mile walk through any casino. But when you think about it, this is Vegas and you deserve some hospitality. Swinging up to Valet will only run you $3-5 for a tip, more if you have a great experience and feel friendly. I'd likely pay more just for the convenience of Mr. Hottie to grab my car and save me from walking in those heels I chose, despite Tip #2's best intentions. The only time Valet might not be a good option is the location of the hotel's porte cochere to your final destination. If the self park garage is closer to where you're going, skip the Valet.

5. Undress

Undress

I wanted to include this cool little Kickstarter gadget just for its sheer ingenuity and listening to customers' needs. If you haven't seen this circulating the Interwebz just yet, this product called Undress has raised over $615,000 to launch into production. It's essentially a maxi dress that allows you to change out of work-out clothes, swim gear, or whatever and into your fresh clothes without ever getting in awkward, semi-naked situations in public. I'm immediately thinking of how handy it would be before and after dayclub experiences, hitting the gym (if you're one of those super heroes who works out during vacation), or to pop on something comfy after your night out and hitting up some fast food.

6. Uber and Shift

In case you haven't heard, Uber is now working and running fairly smoothly here in Vegas. The social ride-sharing application allows people to hail Uber-accredited drivers and their vehicles for a quick ride to your chosen destination. Sure, you can still use cabs, limos, party busses, and any of the other transportation options to get around the city, but if you're already familiar with Uber in other cities, just use your account to get picked up. Shift is a similar concept, but will only be launching their Beta test this season. Sign up if you're curious like me.

7. Hyperlapse

hyperlapse

Everyone's doing it! This photo app native to iPhone users has taken off and there are endless possibilities in Sin City for a great Hyperlapse during your night out. There are a few knockoff versions on the Google Play Store for Android users, since we're almost always on the wait list when cool apps come out. Get some amazing content for your friends and family to show them what you're up to after you take one. We took a few during Life is Beautiful last month, so it's proven great for concerts, clubs, and especially walking up and down the Strip. Use your imagination!

8. Guestlist

After Hours

Are you on the list? This is a big one for anyone looking to have a great time out in our city where nightlife reigns supreme. If you're not on the list and don't know anyone who can help, you can end up standing in line for hours and potentially not even getting in the club. Luckily, you're reading this, so it's as easy as downloading our Guestlist app Marko's Guest List and we'll be your new best friends walking you right past that line of suckers and straight into the bright lights and heavy beats.

9. Bottle Service

If you want to go ALL out, balls-to-the-wall, VIP style for an even more epic night out on the town, then you're in need of some bottle service. This means you're not only on the guest list for quick entry, but you'll have your own private table or booth to enjoy with your crew. You know, like ballers do. Bottles come delivered from gorgeous servers and they'll help keep your drinks full and the good times rolling. We're actually giving away $1000 in bottle service to any Vegas nightclub on our Instagram right now, if you want a taste of the high roller life!

10. Attitude

club

Any good night out really has to do with the attitude you're bringing to the table. If you're feeling like you're in the zone and you're happy to be alive, you're bound to have one of those amazing nights. This is it, you guys! You're young (and always young at heart), you're beautiful, and you're blessed enough to have the opportunity and means to treat yourself and celebrate this life. Your friends surrounding you support you for who you are and love to enjoy your company, so don't let them down! If you've let Galavantier help plan your night out, you're pretty much securing your fate as a lover of life like we are and the night that's about to ensue will make you fall in love with Vegas all over again.
