When the Mirage opened its doors I can remember people being so excited about white tigers. They would stand next to the large windows and watch these huge cats sleep. Hundreds of people would just stand there waiting for something to happen. Every now and then a tiger would roll over or yawn and the crowd would let out a small cheer of excitement. It was great entertainment if you had been drinking at a black jack table. If you were a kid you’d lose interest. If you had a camera you would waste a roll of film on sleeping tigers.

It’s an icon on the Las Vegas strip. It seems like no matter where you are at you can see the giant tower that is the Stratosphere. I often think about the old hotel that was on the site, Bob Stupak’s Vegas World, it had some crusty carpets and I was always positive that they had the heaters turned on to high in order to make you forget about how bad everything seemed inside the casino.
